Bulgarian Piano Heritage

The project Bulgarian Piano Heritage was created with the high purpose of introducing the piano music of Bulgaria to the world. The second edition of this project, published in 2022, presents works by Pancho Vladigerov (1899-1978), Dimitar Nenov (1901-1953), Veselin Stoyanov (1902-1969), Vassil Kazandjiev (1934) and Yordan Goshev (1960). The mutual component among these authors is their multilateral involvement as composers, stage performers, pedagogues, theoreticians, writers and renowned social figures, contributing significantly to the Bulgarian music culture.

The cycle encompasses pieces from different periods and genres, representing the richness and uniqueness not only of the different authors, but of the Bulgarian music as something specifically regional, yet very international and cosmopolitan. Melodies and motives from the colorful national folklore meet modernistic structures and harmonics to create something special, intriguing and emotionally and intellectually charged.

The project, supported by the Ministry of Education of Bulgaria, consists of brilliant and captivating recordings by the young pianist Simeon Goshev and a wonderful new edition of all the compositions. Both the CD and the score have found place in libraries, universities and cultural institutions in Europe, USA and Asia and is contributing to the representation and popularization of the Bulgarian art and culture across the world.
